Indiana County Coroner Jerry Overman Jr. says a Washington Township man died of multiple blunt force trauma on Friday afternoon in a farming accident near Creekside.
57-year-old Leonard Mark Johnston was mowing a field along Johnston Road, and was apparently attempting to manually adjust a discharge chute on a flail chopper when he reached over the PTO driveshaft and his jacket became entangled. Creekside firefighters had to help extricate Johnston from the machine. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 5:18 PM.
The coroner says a Center Township man who died Friday evening is believed to have suffered a medical emergency. 53-year-old George Zayac Jr. of Cedar Street in Coral was archery hunting near the Red Barn Sportsmen’s Club when he suddenly fell ill. He was pronounced dead at 9:54 PM. An autopsy and toxicology testing were conducted yesterday. The cause of death is pending the results. Overman says there was no sign of foul play or accident.
