A car was destroyed Monday afternoon after it caught fire near the Giant Eagle plaza in White Township.
Indiana Fire Association Company 1 and state police were summoned to the southbound lane of Ben Franklin Road around 4:18 p.m. for a vehicle fire between Sharon’s School of Dance and Giant Eagle.
Assistant Chief Lee Thompson said the driver and a passenger inside got out of the car safely, but the cause of the fire is still being investigated.
Crews were able to contain the fire within 30 minutes and both lanes of traffic were rerouted through the plaza. The car sustained severe front-end damage and had to be towed from the scene.
