The Homer City Borough Council are in the process of approving a new noise ordinance, passed next year’s budget, and accepted the resignation of a veteran council member.
At last month’s meeting, two borough residents brought to the council’s attention a bothersome neighbor who they said plays loud music all night, despite their pleas for him to lower the volume. Tuesday night the council approved the advertising of a noise ordinance forbidding loud music and holding landlords accountable for tenants who refuse to turn-it-down. The ordinance will be formerly adopted next month.
Borough Manager Rob Nymick reported that the 119 project is finished, and work for the Old 119 Water Line Extension project will begin within two months.
In other news, the council chose not to opt the municipality out of consideration for a Category 4 gambling facility, meaning a gambling licensee could choose Homer City for a casino location if desired.
Additionally, the council passed a budget for the coming year, but discussed amending it down the road to grant an additional $6,000 to the police department to cover one additional part-time shift per week.
Lastly, the council honored Bernice Harris, whose resignation will be effective December 31st. Bee served Homer City for 20 years:
“This council is so wonderful to get along with. We never fought, we never had a lot of trouble.”
