One person was injured this morning in the crash of a single-engine airplane with two people aboard near the Jimmy Stewart Airport in White Township.
The plane reportedly experienced engine trouble just after taking off. It was being flown by a student pilot who had his instructor with him, but when the engine stalled, they tried to return to the airport, crashing in a field just off Airport Road.
NOTE: The Indiana Gazette identifies the pilot as James Duncan of White Township, and his instructor as Mark Henck, also of White Township.

Indiana firefighters were summoned at 9:24 AM. The wreckage was removed to a hangar at the airport. An inspector from the Federal Aviation Administration will head up the investigation.
