In Westmoreland County Court this week, Judge Christopher Feliciani denied a motion for post conviction collateral relief for Arthur Whitfield, while at the same time granting a motion for Whitfield’s attorney to withdraw as his counsel, and denying Whitfield a motion for the appointment of a new attorney.
Whitfield, who last lived in Josephine in Indiana County, has been pursuing a motion for post conviction relief after pleading guilty to second degree murder in the December 2013 shooting death of his former girlfriend, Holly Slone George, at her home in Derry. He broke into the home and shot her multiple times as she was watching TV with her 15-year-old daughter in an upstairs bedroom.
Had Whitfield been granted the motion for relief, it could eventually have led to his release from prison. He is serving life in prison without parole at the SCI Albion in Erie County.
