Today is the funeral service for longtime Indiana County Commissioner Dave Frick, who passed away last week.
Frick grew up on a farm in Indiana County and graduated from what would later become IUP before taking a teaching job in Pittsburgh. A job offer with the MONY group brought him back to the county in 1950, and he became a part of the insurance group for 41 years. After he initially retired, Frick would become a member of the Indiana Area School Board, run for state legislature, and joined the Indiana County Commissioners in 2003. Frick retired in September of 2013, citing his advancing age.
In his later years, Frick would own a cattle farm in Washington Township. (In an interview on Indiana in the Morning), fellow County Commissioner Rod Ruddock said that he was always ready in case he was needed to do some work on the farm. He always kept a pair of work gloves in his truck with him, saying that he was always ready in case he needed to go out to his cattle farm to do some work.
Ruddock also said that Frick got along with everyone on the board of Commissioners and with everyone who contacted him needing assistance.
Frick was part of the board of Commissioners for the construction of the new county jail, renovations to the courthouse, the runway extension at the Jimmy Stewart Airport and the upgrades to the county’s emergency radio network among other projects.
The funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM today at Graystone Evangelical Presbyterian Church, and a private internment will be held at the Greenwood Cemetery in Indiana. Frick passed away at the age of 81.
