Extradition proceedings could be delayed in the case of a man charged with the death of an Indiana County woman in a 25-year-old investigation.
In October, State Police and the Indiana County District Attorney announced the filing of homicide charges against Charles Cook of Minnesota in the investigation into the death of Myrtle McGill, who was murdered at her home in December of 1991. A cigarette butt found during the initial investigation was tested for DNA evidence and that lead investigators to cook, who in the time since the murder was arrested on drug charges and after he was paroled, became a transient living in several states. He was arrested in Worthington, Minnesota in December of 2015, and was reported to be homeless at the time of his arrest.
Since the announcement of the filing of charges against him in October of 2016, he has not been extradited back to Indiana to face the murder charges. District Attorney Patrick Dougherty said that Cook may be fighting the extradition order. Dougherty said they have been in contact with the Governor of Minnesota and are making sure that all their paperwork is in order for their extradition. Dougherty said that he still expects Cook to be extradited back to Indiana to face murder charges.
