Drivers are being asked to be extra careful this morning as black ice has been reported across Indiana County roadways.
Within the span of two and a half hours, starting at 5:30 this morning, Indiana County first responders have been on the scene for eight accidents in different areas of the county. One accident in particular, one on Route 286 between Sleepy Hollow Road and Allen Bridge Road in Rayne Township, has closed the road because of power lines being down. Also, traffic is reportedly slowed to a stop on Route 286 on the Clymer side of Airport road.
Two more accidents were reported, one at 7:24 this morning on Red Street in Young Township, where a utility pole was sheared. One minute later, another crash was reported in Pine Township on Route 403.
Black ice may be the culprit behind the string of accidents we’ve seen this morning. Deborah Cassedei of PennDOT said that Black Ice can be a very dangerous phenomenon, where roads appear to be wet, but are in fact covered with ice, and are deceptively slick.
We advise you to please be careful and take your time this morning when you are driving.
