With today being Martin Luther King, Jr. day, many pay tribute to Dr. King by performing public service acts in their community. One of those acts that has become a tradition in Indiana is one of the largest Bloodmobiles of the season.
The American Red Cross will hold a bloodmobile today at the Rustic Lodge from 9 AM to 7 PM. The blood drive has become an annual tradition that has been going on for 23 years. The “It’s a Wonderful Life blood drive” is important this year as blood supplies are low at this time of year, according to Autumn Moore of the American Red Cross. Donations typically drop off during the holiday season as people do not head out because of the increased activities.
While all blood types will be accepted, type O blood is needed the most, as it is the universal donor blood type. The Red Cross will also accept donations of
blood platelets and “power red” donations that collect red blood cells but returns most of the plasma and platelets to the donor.
