At last night’s Marion Center school board meeting, the Board issued a press release outlining the major components of the Collective Bargaining Agreement reached between the Marion Center Area School District and the Marion Center Area Education Association, which is set to take effect in July. Early bird negotiations began in November of last year, and with a contract approved, teachers and administrators can focus all attention on “assisting students in attaining academic achievement,” the release states.
In an effort to cut costs, the Board also voted in favor of eliminating the Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment position and the Director of Special Education position. The duties of the positions will be absorbed into a new Director of Education position, which will be helmed by Amy Gaston, the former Director of Special Education. Superintendent Clint Weimer explains:
“This was a step we made when Mr. Adamchik announced his retirement. We looked at all possible cost savings in the district to see if we could do it. So, through some realignment and delegation of some duties, don’t get me wrong, it’s a substantial cost savings over the next four years. Upwards of $370,000.”
Finally, the Board approved rate increases for substitute Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, and substitute teachers, which are set to take effect on January 24th.
