There was some behind the scenes court action in the Joseph Popovich homicide by vehicle case as his attorney yesterday waived a formal arraignment proceeding scheduled for next week. The procedural move means there will be no hearing at which the charges are read aloud in court, and that the information from his preliminary hearing has been received from Magisterial District Court.
16-year-old Kai Hrabovsky of Homer City died after being hit by a vehicle while walking along Mount Zion Road in Pine Township last May. Police say the vehicle was a Jeep driven by Popovich.
In addition to homicide by vehicle, Popovich will be tried on charges of homicide by vehicle while driving under the influence, accidents involving death or injury, two counts of driving under the influence, and related traffic offenses. No trial date has been set.
