UPDATE: Pommer has waived his preliminary hearing this morning, and his case will go to trial. A trial date has not been set as of yet.
WHAT WE ORIGINALLY REPORTED
A preliminary hearing is scheduled this morning for a Saltsburg man charged with homicide by vehicle while DUI for a crash last June that killed one person and injured three others.
21-year-old Matthew Charles Pommer is also charged with homicide by vehicle, four counts of aggravated assault by vehicle while DUI, and three counts of driving under the influence, plus summary traffic offenses. The charges were filed last month.
Pommer was at the wheel of a vehicle that left Saltsburg Road in Conemaugh Township at about 3:45 AM on June 5th, smashing head-on into a tree. Five people had been in the car, including 21-year-old Luke White, who was killed. When police arrived, two victims were already awaiting an airlift to Pittsburgh. Emergency responders found another man lying in a field, and yet another man was seen running into the woods, where he was taken into custody. He told police they’d been at a field party nearby.
Pommer’s hearing today is at 10 AM before District Judge Jennifer Rega.
