More information has come in concerning a fatal car crash last night in Derry Township.
Westmoreland County Coroner Kenneth Bacha said 52-year-old Scott Geary of Derry Township died in the crash that happened at 11:17 PM last night. The crash was at the intersection of Route 217 and Old Route 217, halfway between Blairsville and Derry near Hillside. Geary was driving his Ford Mustang South on Route 217 when he crossed the center line and hit multiple guide rails, and went off the roadway hitting multiple trees. Deputy Coroner Joshua Zappone pronounced Geary dead at the scene at 12:20 this morning. Zappone said Geary was not wearing his seat belt when the crash happened, and he believes that speed may have been a factor in the crash.
The official cause of death was multiple blunt-force injuries. Toxicology results will not be available for a few weeks. State Police in Greensburg are continuing their investigations, and will release more information at their discretion.
