Snow –covered roads may have led to a number of accidents across the region yesterday, including a five-car pileup at about 6 o’clock last night on Route 422 in Armstrong Township.
State police report the crash occurred when a westbound SUV driven 38-year-old Matthew Strotman of Shelocta crossed into the eastbound lane, colliding with a car driven by 41-year-old Richard Rising of Elderton. Strotman’s vehicle then hit another eastbound vehicle, driven by 61-year-old Glenn Wolfe of Ebensburg. Back in the westbound lane, 49-year-old Timothy Johns of Commodore was slowing down to avoid the other crash when his vehicle was struck from behind by a pickup driven by 35-year-old Jennifer Curtis of Shelocta, pushing the Johns vehicle into three.
Police say two of the drivers, Richard Rising and Glenn Wolfe, were taken to the Indiana Regional Medical Center, as was Rising passenger, 36-year-old Jessica Wolfe. Their injuries were described as minor to moderate.
BUFFINGTON TOWNSHIP
No one was injured early yesterday morning in a crash on Ridge Road in Buffington Township. State police say a car driven by 19-year-old April Yarnal of Homer City slid on the snow on a left-hand curve, striking a tree and rolling onto its roof.
ARMSTRONG TOWNSHIP
A Home man escaped injury in a crash just before 8:30 yesterday morning on Creekside Road in Armstrong Township. A vehicle driven by 49-year-old Rodney Fleming struck a curve on the winding road, taking out a stop sign at Dark Hollow Road and rolling onto its roof.
