A sophomore from IUP died early Saturday morning and one person is now in custody charged with Aggravated Assault.
Indiana County District Attorney Patrick Dougherty announced Saturday afternoon that 20-year-old IUP Student Caleb Zweig of the Maryland area was found unconscious outside of a residence in the 800 block of Wayne Avenue late last night after a reported altercation with 19-year-old Brady Colin DiStephano of Johnstown. Indiana Borough Police were initially called out for a medical situation, and investigation revealed that the two were reportedly involved in a fight. Police were able to respond quickly with members of Citizens’ Ambulance, but Dougherty said that Zweig passed away at Indiana Regional Medical Center just after midnight Saturday morning.
Dougherty said that the death of Zweig is bound to have a large impact on the IUP community.

The DA’s office and the Indiana Borough Police are continuing to investigate. A report from the Indiana County Coroner’s Office is not yet available. IUP representatives say that grief counselors will be made available to students on Monday.
Meanwhile, DiStephano was arraigned at District Judge George Thachick’s office on one count of Aggravated Assault. Dougherty said more charges could be added as the investigation continues
