With around 6-10 inches of snow expected for this snowfall, many people have been out using snow shovels or snow blowers to make a clear path for themselves and in the case of businesses, a clear path for their customers. In Downtown Indiana, snow removal was covered in the Business Improvement District, but because that agreement expired, there was more snow on the sidewalks this morning than normal.
Snow removal is part of the BID agreement, which expired last month. The agreement requires business owners in the district to pay a fee, and in exchange, several services would be provided to the district. But in a facebook post made this morning, Downtown Indiana said that because there is no BID agreement in place, there is no snow removal service. David Janusek of Downtown Indiana says that they will continue to help but it may not be as much as in the past. But business owners are helping out the Downtown Indiana maintenance personnel in keeping the crosswalks ADA compliant.
Janusek did say a first draft of the new BID agreement was sent to Indiana Borough and to the Pennsylvania Downtown Centers for their approval before it’s sent out to the public for review.
