The Homer-Center School Board heard good results from a recent test of the district’s water during last night’s meeting.
Homer-Center’s Facilities Supervisor Ed Sutter reported that with the cooperation of the Central Indiana County Water Authority, water testing was done to make sure that the water that students drink is safe. Sutter said this was inspired by the recent issues in the Butler school district surrounding lead levels in water.
The tests showed that lead levels in Homer-Center’s water supply came out to “less than .005 milligrams per liter”, which is the lowest possible measurement, and that indicates no lead contaminants registered in the samples taken from all of the school buildings. Sutter said they will continue to pro-actively test the water, and they will train maintenance personnel to operate the system efficiently and effectively, including periodic system flushing, and they will continue to share the results with the board, the community, and the Central Indiana County Water Authority.
In other business, the board hired Daniel Cooper as the district’s solicitor for the 2017-2018 school year, and approved Parker Surveying and Engineering as a design consultant for the Homer-Center Elementary School Playground project.
