Over 100 people were in attendance at St. Andrew’s Village for a town hall meeting with House Majority Leader and State Representative Dave Reed.
The three-hour town hall meeting covered a wide range of topics from the budget and the state pension to natural gas drilling. One of the hot button topics was the Indiana School District’s proposed project which would build a new Ben Franklin Elementary and close the two elementary schools located in Indiana borough, and Reed was asked if he was in opposition to the project. Reed said that he felt there was no educational value to the project, as he feels the district is already one of the best in the area.
One of the more current topics brought up last night was the issue of peaceful protestors, and Reed said that while he hasn’t seen any bills come in the state house yet that would affect peaceful protests, he reminded the crowd that the nation was founded on protests. He also said that it’s a completely different matter when those protests turn violent.
Two other town hall meetings will be held, one at the Cherryhill Township Fire Hall in Penn Run on March 16th at 6:00 PM and one at the Brush Valley Fire Hall on March 23rd at 6 PM. If you want to attend the meetings, you are asked to make a reservation by calling 724-465-0220 or visiting www.repdavereed.net and clicking on the Winter Town Hall Meetings link.
