Warnings are going out today concerning scammers who are trying to get money from people concerned about their health care.
The scammers ask their potential victims to switch their health care coverage to the Pennsylvania Department of Health’s plan. The scammers are able to alter their caller ID signal so that it looks like the phone number is from one of the state health centers. Department of Health Secretary Dr. Karen Murphy warned that the Department of Health serves uninsured and underinsured Pennsylvanians, they do not offer a health insurance program, nor do they collect insurance information from people receiving services.
Insurance Commissioner Theresa Miller warned that people should be wary if they are solicited for insurance programs, and if you have any concerns, you should contact your insurance provider before making any decisions. The best thing to do if you receive one of these calls is to hang up the phone.
