The State System of Higher Education says its planned strategic review has generated so much public interest, a special section of its website has been established to answer the most frequently asked questions.
The site is hosted by Chancellor Frank Brogan and Board of Governors Chairwoman Cynthia Shapiro. In addition to answering questions about the strategic review, it also has an update on State System advocacy as the state budget hearings continue. The Board of Governors is asking for an increase of $61 million in this year’s allocation, while Governor Wolf has requested a more modest $9 million hike.
One of the most frequently asked questions is whether or not there are plans to close any of the fourteen state-owned universities. The answer is no, but with the caveat that they don’t yet know what the recommendations will be at the conclusion of the strategic review.
The site outlines a rough timeline for the review, with information collected through the rest of this academic year and into the summer, a series of recommendations later in the year, and the possible implementation of some of those recommendations as early as this fall.
