The Center Township Supervisors are continuing to prepare for the upcoming bridge project on Bethel Church Road.
The Supervisors have posted a map of the proposed detours that school buses will have to take to go around the construction area at their offices, and will continue to discuss the detours with Homer-Center School District officials. While Supervisors Chairman John Bertolino said that he wanted to have the project completed in three months, but after meeting with PennDOT and engineers, he was told it would take four to four-and-a-half months, which would interfere with the school busing routes.
The project, which will cost an estimated $974,000 is projected to start in May, and the bridge will open up to regular traffic, including school buses, as soon as they get approval from PennDOT. Bids will be sought as soon as the plans get PennDOT’s approval.
In other business, the Supervisors are reminding everyone that there will be no free Spring Cleanup this year, but free dumping permits are available at the Township Offices. The permits will allow someone to take a load of refuse to the area listed on the permit, and they would pay roughly 1/3rd of the cost to dump the load in that area. The permits are available year round, but you can only get one permit per household per year, and are only available to Center Township residents.
