The bid process for the demolition of Leonard Hall at IUP has begun, with bids due March 20th. Leonard Hall, which was constructed in 1953, is one of the buildings that rims the Oak Grove. The university plans to construct a new building for the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics in the location of Leonard Hall, but that project is subject to funding, which is difficult to come by these days with the State System of Higher Education’s budget woes.
The demolition of Leonard Hall is expected to cost between $1 million and $2 million.
Bids are also being accepted for the renovations to the first floor of Elkin Hall, which is being re-purposed to house the Center for Multicultural Student Leadership and Engagement. The new center will include a multi-purpose space, gallery and display area, student meeting rooms, and offices for IUP Student Affairs staff.
