The Indiana County Commissioners during their meeting this (Wednesday) morning approved purchasing a new central control system for the Indiana County Jail.
The current Central Control System that runs the doors and emergency panels has been in the jail since it was built in 2008, and was patched several times since then. In fact, according to Jail Warden Sam Buzzinotti, the system went down once in the last year, and the staff at the jail had to resort to using emergency keys for five days, and it was difficult for the staff.
The cost of the new central control system is over $100,000, but the commissioners approved applying for $30,000 in grants to help offset the costs and they will look for further grants to further offset the costs.
In other business, the commissioners approved a request for proposal for a hazard mitigation plan from the county’s Emergency Management Agency. The bid was awarded to MCM Consulting for $34,995 and the plan will identify areas that have had repetitive flood loss or damage.
