Indiana Borough Council is sending an agreement concerning the Indiana Fire Association back to the fire department for further review.
Borough Council President Peter Broad said that it concerns a statement that was asked to be removed or clarified in the agreement presented to council concerning utility payments and who would be responsible for them for the fire department’s current station in the borough. Broad said the clause sounds like that the borough is going to stop paying for the utilities in the current station, which is in the Indiana Borough Building, but when the Indiana Fire Association moves to its new station at 5th and Philadelphia Streets, the fire department will be responsible for utility payments. The borough would still be responsible for utilities at the Indiana Borough Building.
The rejection of the agreement by council and subsequent return for editing should not affect firefighting service to Indiana Borough residents.
In other business, Borough Manager Brad Gotshall announced that the borough’s budget is now posted on the borough’s website, and they are currently working on a plan to give borough residents an option to pay their garbage and utility bills online via credit card. Gotshall said that there will be more to post in the future, as he feels that the borough’s website should be a one-stop-shop for borough services, like the brick and mortar borough offices.
