IUP President Dr. Michael Driscoll updated the IUP Community on the state of the university during a mid-semester briefing Wednesday morning at Sutton Hall.
Among the many remarks in Driscoll’s speech was pride in seeing the “IUP Way” in action across campus. The IUP Way, according to Driscoll, is a philosophy of treating each other with respect and dignity, being able to discuss different ideas with civility, and holding each other accountable when they fall short of those ideals. One point he mentioned was the travel bans that were enacted by President Donald Trump. Driscoll repeated some of the statement he made in January, saying that IUP would continue to be a welcoming educational community.
Another hot topic that he touched on was the issue of gender identity, especially when it comes to public restrooms. Driscoll said those concerns have been brought into play with the recent construction going on, with all-gender bathrooms continuing to be provided on campus, and those restrooms being noted on the interactive IUP Campus map.
