A road in Indiana County remains closed after a crash took out power lines earlier today.
The crash was reported at 6:30 this morning by Indiana County 911 in the Eastbound Lanes of Route 56 near Anita Mine Road. 511 PA now reports that the road is closed from a point just north of Oneida Mine Road and a point south of Township Road 617.
Deborah Cassedei of PennDOT has told your Hometown Radio Stations that a dump truck hit a utility pole and some of the wires came down. As of this hour, they are still awaiting utility workers to arrive and make repairs.
While not connected with the crash this morning on Route 56, many people in Indiana County are without power thanks to the snowy conditions.
REA Energy is reporting that 530 customers are without power, mainly in the northwest and southwestern portions of the county. REA representatives say the outage is due to the heavy snow falling on trees and trees falling on lines, or the snow building up directly on the power lines. Pennelec reports 1-20 customers in Indiana and over 120 customers in the Home Station and Dixonville areas without power.
Crews are working towards full restoration. Pennelec says power should be back on by 11:00 PM, but REA is not providing a timetable for power restoration.
