PennDOT and the state Department of Environmental Protection are looking for volunteers to help out with Pennsylvania’s participation in the Great American Cleanup.
The program is sponsored each year by PennDOT, the State DEP, along with the Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful program. Last year during the Great American Cleanup of Pennsylvania, over 5.2 million pounds of litter were picked up from Pennsylvania roads, trails and shorelines, and over 150,000 volunteers took part in the program. The Great American Cleanup of Pennsylvania runs now until the end of May, so there is still plenty of time to take part in the program.
PennDOT provides orange visibility vests, gloves and trash bags to groups that want to participate in the Great American Cleanup of Pennsylvania, and there will be other programs held as part of the event, including “Pick It Up PA” days from April 18th to May 8th, where registered events will have access to reduced or free disposal at participating landfills. There will also be events connected to planting gardens, recycling, and removing grafitti.
