The Penns Manor School Board at their meeting last night approved a project to refurbish the football field at the High School.
The current field will be completely renovated, and this includes putting in a turf field to replace the grass field currently at the school. The project is expected to not exceed $550,000, but School Board President Robert Packer said the project will not be funded by taxpayer dollars. Instead, it will be partially funded by a $250,000 grant from the NFL Foundation-Local Initiatives Support Foundation Grassroots Grant, and a $25,000 donation from ESPN, with the rest coming from the Penns Manor Foundation. He said without the NFL and ESPN grants, the project would never see the light of day.
Packer also talked about funding the project down the road when the playing surface needs to be replaced. He said that they will save some money each year to save up for turf replacement. The money will hopefully completely pay for, if not cover most of, the cost of replacing the turf surface.
In other business, the board accepted the resignation of longtime business manager and board secretary David Kudlawiec effective today. The board appointed Connie Patterson as an interim business manager and board secretary, and will advertise for a permanent business manager.
