Road Crews are getting ready for a winter snowstorm that is expected to bring 8-12 inches over the next few days.
The National Weather Service is reporting that a Winter Storm Warning will go into effect at 8:00 PM tonight and remain in effect until 8:00 AM on Wednesday. Joe Palko with the National Weather Service, says this storm is already bringing comparisons to the storm that hit this area in 1993. He also said that our area has historically had stronger winter storms in the month of March right before the first day of Spring, so this storm falls historically in that area.
During the storm, road crews are expected to be busy keeping the roads safe and passable.
Deborah Cassedei of PennDOT said they have talked with their snow plow drivers, and they will be ready for the storm. Cassedei said that some drivers may be on the roads today, laying down a salt brine as a preventative measure. The water in the brine will evaporate on the roads, but it will leave behind a layer of road salt that can help prevent the formation of ice.
Cassedei reminds everyone to allow yourself extra time during snow storms if you have to be on the road, and if conditions get dangerous, it may be better to not head out on the road unless you absolutely have to.
Indiana Borough is also getting ready for the storm, and Dave Fairman of the borough’s Public Works department is asking everyone to utilize off-street parking as much as possible to make it easier for their plows to do their work on borough roads.
