State police have filed multiple reports of theft cases involving Indiana County’s two Walmart stores.
Theft charges are pending against 44-year-old Raymond Erwin of Armagh for an incident March 3rd at the White Township Walmart. Police say a woman dropped her wallet in the store and Erwin picked it up, took it into the men’s room and stole its contents, leaving the wallet in the restroom as he walked away. Walmart’s security cameras captured the entire sequence of events. The report says that Erwin used one of the victim’s credit cards to make four transactions. In all, he’s accused of being responsible for $1,071 in stolen money, gift cards, and fraudulent purchases. In addition to theft, he will be charged with receiving stolen property and access device fraud.
Police do not name the suspects in four swipe-and-swap incidents that played out over four December days at the White Township Walmart. The thefts played out the same way each day. One person stole merchandise and gave it to another, who returned it for gift cards. The amount on December 10th was $536. The next day was $462. The next two days, the amounts were $255 and $478. Police do not say if they have suspects, or if the thefts each day were committed by the same suspects.
State police say two known suspects will be charged with theft for stealing $55 in merchandise from the Burrell Township Walmart on Friday.
