One of the outspoken opponents to the project that would close two elementary schools, tear down and rebuild a third and expand a fourth school in the Indiana School District has announced that she is running for the school board.
Indiana Borough resident Barbara Barker has announced her candidacy for the school board. Barker organized and presented a petition of over 2000 signatures of district residents asking the board to stop the building project and allow voters to decide the issue.
Her platform includes keeping the Horace Mann and Eisenhower elementary schools open; stopping the plan to build a new, larger Ben Franklin School; avoiding unnecessary taxes; ensuring academic achievement of all district students; and addressing the concerns of families of special needs children.
