The flood waters last night claimed the life of a Shelocta-area man.
While an identity on the victim has not been provided, we know that the death was due to the flood waters at 1623 Sportsmans Club Road near the Indiana-Armstrong County Line. David Bruzda, the assistant chief with Tunnelton Fire Department talked about how the death happened, and said that he and another man were investigating the flooding of a pond near their home when the victim was swept underwater.

The Tunnelton-Conemaugh Township water rescue team did respond, but by then they could not save the victim. Units from the Blairsville Fire Department were also on hand to assist.
While the flash flood warning from the National Weather Service has expired, the NWS has issued a flood watch for Indiana County starting at 2:00 AM Friday morning and running until 2:00 AM Saturday morning. If you happen on a flooded roadway, the best advice is to “Turn Around, Don’t Drown”.
