The Bon Ton Stores, Incorporated, yesterday released a list of 42 stores it will close, and it does not include the Indiana Mall store.
The store chain will close eight stores in Pennsylvania, the nearest of which to Indiana are the Johnstown and DuBois stores. The complete list is available at http://investors.bonton.com/node/19006/pdf
Indiana Mall Manager Sherry Renosky said that they were happy with the Indiana Mall Bon Ton remaining open, and they hope to serve the customers from the nearby stores that are closing.
Bon Ton operates 260 stores in 24 states under a variety of nameplates, including Bon Ton, Bergner’s, Boston Store, Carson, Beerman, Herberger’s, and Younkers. The corporate headquarters are in York, PA and in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The company announced in November that it would close a number of stores in early 2018. Five other stores had previously been targeted for closure, bringing the total number of stores closing to 47. Just days after the November announcement that stores would close, Morningstar Credit Ratings published a list of 36 stores it deemed to be most at risk, and it included the Indiana Mall store.
Sales in the closing stores will begin today and could last as long as twelve weeks.
