Police report several crashes and various incidents involving alcohol.
State police report a three-vehicle crash on Route 422 in Armstrong Township. Just before 6:30 PM Friday, a vehicle driven by 56-year-old Herbert Edmonston of Clymer was traveling west in the right lane on West Pike Road approaching Wood Crest Lane, when his vehicle suddenly crossed over in to the east bound lane, striking the vehicle of 51-year-old Jerry McIntire of Kittanning, and his passenger, 43-year-old Michele Sweeney of Dayton. McIntire’s vehicle then spun 90 degrees and struck a guide rail. After the impact, Edmonston’s vehicle continued in the east bound lane, striking a third vehicle head-on, that vehicle driven by 28-year-old Catherine Ippolito of Indiana. Ippolito’s vehicle came to an abrupt stop after also striking the guide rail on the south side of the roadway. Edmonston’s vehicle spun 180 degrees and came to rest in the middle of West Pike Road. Both Edmonston and Ippolito were injured, the severity unknown. Edmonston was taken by Citizens Ambulance to the Indiana Regional Medical Center, and is reported to have been driving under the influence, charges pending.
State police report a single-vehicle crash on Kirkland Road, Rayne Township Friday. At 5:33 PM, a vehicle driven by 41-year-old Jeanne Hammond of Clymer was traveling south on Kirkland Road when it left the road way and struck a tree, before travelling down an embankment and rolling on to its roof. Hammond and her 10-year-old passenger were not injured.
State police report also a single-vehicle crash on Route 422 near Warren Road. Details are scarce as the investigation continues, but it is known that shortly after 8 PM Thursday, a crash occurred involving an unidentified female who was under the influence of a controlled substance.
Indiana borough police report two instances of underage drinking early Saturday morning. At 1:45 AM, borough police found 19-year-old Alanna Marie Kozielec of Hollsopple highly intoxicated outside a residence in the 700 block of Wayne Avenue. She was charged with public drunkenness and underage drinking. Earlier, just before 1 AM, police observed 20-year-old Zachary Daniel Smeltz of Phoenixville intoxicated in the HUB parking lot on the IUP campus. He was arrested and cited also for public drunkenness and underage drinking.
State police report a case of public drunkenness just after 1 AM Friday. A man named Wade Garrett Semsick was found unconscious at the corner of North 5th Street and Philadelphia Street in Indiana Borough. The trooper reports he was on patrol in the location when he saw Semsick. The trooper exited his vehicle and approached Semsick, who was reportedly too intoxicated to speak or provide any information regarding the incident. Semsick’s identification was known from previous encounters.
Borough police also report a vehicle damaged between 7 PM Friday night and 1 AM Saturday morning. The vehicle was parked behind a residence in the 400 block of South 7th Street when someone damaged a side mirror. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 349-2121.
