State Representative and House Majority Leader Dave Reed has announced that Indiana County will receive funding from the state to help eligible county residents with home improvements.
In a media release, Reed announced the awarding of $55,000 to the county through the Pennsylvania Housing Affordability and Rehabilitation Enhancement program, or PHARE. The funds will be used to help those 55 and over with the replacement of deteriorating or leaky roofs and/or the replacement of inefficient, inoperable or unsafe heating systems. The PHARE grant for Indiana County was approved by the Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency, and is funded through the Marcellus Shale Impact Fee commonly called Act 13.
Reed said the funding could be used to help make the repairs needed that may be costly to those on a limited income.
