A sure sign of the summer season is upon us today as the Westsylvania Jazz and Blues Festival takes place today in Downtown Indiana.
The fifth annual music festival will take place at IRMC Park, which means North 7th Street from Philadelphia to Water Streets for the whole day. The music starts at 10:00 with the Indiana-based group The Dad Band, followed by the Nevin Saylor Big Band at 12:15. Other acts include the Funky Fly Project, Jimmy Adler Band and others. The final group of the festival is The Commonheart starting at 7:30 tonight. The Commonheart is based out of Pittsburgh but they tour across the nation and according to fesvial co-founder and Dad Band member Dave Ferguson, this 10-piece group is reminiscent of Joe Cocker.
Local breweries will also be featured as Levity and Noble Stein will serve beer in IRMC Park today. This marks the first time that open alcoholic containers will be allowed during a festival, thanks to a change in local laws from the Indiana Borough Council.
