Last night was the kickoff of the Delaney Westsylvania Jazz and Blues Festival with bands Post Traumatik and Left Lane Cruiser. Today’s schedule will feature more bands, and more “after hours” opportunities.
The festival, now in it’s sixth year, brings jazz and blues bands to IRMC Park on North 7th Street of both local and national renown. This year marked the first year that the Westsylvania Jazz and Blues festival expanded to Friday night. This year also marks the debut of children’s activities coordinated by the Children’s Advisory Commission of Indiana County, which will be located inside the 7th Street Marketry from 10 AM to 4 PM, and there will also be some vendors with items for sale in the Old Borough Building parking lot behind the stage.
The music gets underway with festival founders “The Dad Band” at 10 AM, followed by a performance by the Indiana High School Jazz Ensemble with Jared Sims at 10:45. Sims will join The Nevin Saylor Big Band at 11:30 this morning. At 12:45, Jack Of Diamonds will take the stage, followed by The Inner Urge at 2:00. Tom Roberts will bring New Orleans style jazz to the stage at 3:15, and that will be followed at 4:30 by Miss Freddye. Jazz headliner Dwayne Dolphin will take the stage at 5:45 PM and Blues Headliner Vanessa Collyer plays at 7:30.
Three establishments in the area will also host “after hours” jam sessions with local artists. For more information, log on to www.westsylvaniajazzandblues.org
