Irvin Charles, the Division I transfer from Penn State, will not be playing football for IUP this year.
Charles, a 6-4 wide receiver, had been practicing with the Crimson Hawks until last Wednesday, when a compliance issue arose. He was ruled ineligible, so he has not practiced since then. IUP appealed to the NCAA in an attempt to get the issue resolved, but late yesterday the NCAA denied the appeal, so Charles has been officially ruled ineligible to play for IUP.
The report we get is that Charles will return to Penn State in order to receive his degree and then return to IUP in the fall of next year and become a grad student.
Meanwhile the team will conduct its final intra -squad scrimmage today at 4 p .m. Here’s more from Jack Benedict at IUP practice on Wednesday.
