Indiana County voters yesterday elected a new district attorney and two new commissioners, while returning a commissioner, the sheriff, and the prothonotary and clerk of courts to office.
In a tight race, Bob Manzi defeated incumbent Patrick Dougherty in the race for district attorney. The margin was less than 400 votes, with Manzi getting 50.29 percent and Dougherty pulling in 48.28 percent.
In the race for county commissioner, the two incumbent Republicans chose not to run this year and will be replaced by two other Republicans, newcomers Mike Keith and Robin Gorman. They’ll join incumbent Democrat Sherene Hess. Keith led with 25.77 percent of the voting, followed by Gorman’s 23.78 percent and Hess’s 18.6 percent.
Incumbent Sheriff Bob Fyock overwhelmed challenger Lou Sacco for county sheriff, 61.7 percent to 36.97 percent. Randy Degenkolb was an easy winner for prothonotary and clerk of courts, with 64.77 percent of the votes cast.
For county auditor, Donna K. Cupp and Bonni Dunlap won the two seats.
Former District Attorney Bob Bell was the lone candidate on the ballot for Magisterial District Court in Blairsville, having won both the Democratic and Republican primaries in May.
Most of the school board races in the county featured primary winners capturing the seats for which they were running in uncontested races. For Indiana Area, six candidates were vying for five seats, with the winners being Walter Schroth, Tamara Leeper, Cinda Brode, Terry Kerr, and Tammy Blank.
