Homer-Center students are looking to help out Indiana Regional Medical Center with the creation of some personal protection equipment.
Students with the Homer-Center 3D Printing class and Steam Lab, along with their instructor, Brad Adams, Dr. Mary Sturm from IRMC, and Dr. Hillary Creely of IUP, have been working on making face shields for staffers at IRMC. The students are using their 3D printers to make face shield mounting brackets, with Adams assembling the shields. The completed masks will go to IRMC to supplement its stock of personal protection equipment. When word of this effort got around, people from other schools including ICTC, Indiana and Penns Manor offered the use of their private 3D printers to make the brackets.
Adams said that the idea came as students expressed their desire to use their skills to make an impact. That came at the same time that he was talking with IRMC and IUP about that issue.
