About two years ago, Indiana native Matt Amendt made a critically acclaimed star turn as the lead in William Shakespeare’s Hamlet at the Pittsburgh Public Theater. Now, over the next two nights, people can see him in a virtual performance.

The Pittsburgh Public Theater, has cast Amendt in the title role in a virtual version of Moliere’s Tartuffe. This will not be a full-stage performance as Allegheny County is still under Red Status in Governor Wolf’s reopening plan and not allowed to reopen. It will be a part of the Pittsburgh Public Theater’s “Playtime” program, which is offering readings of classic plays. Tartuffe is a comedy dealing with the title character being an imposter and embedding himself into a family to the point that the parents are willing to marry him to their daughter.
Part one of the performance will be on Zoom chat through the Pittsburgh Public Theater’s website. The reading is free, but the theater will accept donations to help them stay afloat during the pandemic.
