Mired in Chapter 11 bankruptcy, JCPenney yesterday announced the permanent closing of 154 stores in twenty states. Four of the stores are in western Pennsylvania, but the Indiana Mall store is not one of them. However, a word of caution: The company says it will announce more closures in the coming weeks.
The Penney’s stores at the Monroeville Mall, Clearview Mall in Butler, Pittsburgh Mills, and Beaver Valley Mall will not be re-opening. One other store in Pennsylvania, in Hanover, will also close.
The J.C. Penney Company did not say whether the additional closures will be in states that were included in the first phase or if they will be in states that avoided store closings in yesterday’s announcement.
It should take 10 to 16 weeks to complete the store closing sales.
