The Indiana County Commissioners approved two change orders for projects with Salsgiver Telecom that will extend broadband to two communities.
One project will extend fiber optic line from Route 954 in White Township along Route 56 to Brush Valley Township, and the other will be to utilize existing fiber optic line on Route 240 in Green Township. For both projects, there will be the installation of WiFi locations in both townships, and would provide access to a combined 653 private customers and 2083 wireless customers in both areas.
County Commissioner Robin Gorman said during the meeting that the expansion of broadband remains a top priority for the commissioners.
In other business, the commissioners adopted a resolution authorizing filing an application to the state Department of Community and Economic Development through the Covid-19 County Relief Block Grant funding in the amount of $7,592,536.60 The money will come from federal CARES act funding and will offset the cost of the county’s direct Covid-19 response, including the purchase of Personal Protective Equipment, assisting businesses and municipalities, providing behavioral health and substance abuse treatment services, funding non-profit assistance programs, and deploying broadband to un-served and un-derserved areas.
Finally, the courthouse will be closed on July 3rd as part of the Independence Day Celebrations.
