Citing a Morning Consult study, APSCUF, the faculty union at the State System of Higher Education, says Pennsylvanians’ student-loan debt and debt at graduation reveals “they lack clear resources to inform them of major changes such as the CARES Act.”
The survey shows that 35 percent of the state’s borrowers are not aware the CARES Act affected their loans and a quarter of those were “not aware at all” of its effect.
APSCUF President Dr. Jamie Martin says “Pennsylvania is consistently ranked near the bottom of all student-debt categories, whether it be the amount of total outstanding student-loan debt or debt at the time of graduation.”
APSCUF will host an online presentation on the survey’s findings tomorrow at 2 o’clock and later, at 5, State Treasurer Joe Torsella, Senator Vincent Hughes, and Representative Jennifer O’Mara will discuss student debt solutions.
