As Governor Tom Wolf continues to claim he is only “suggesting” that there be no fall high school sports until January, the PA Athletic Oversight Committee will meet this morning to “discuss plans by the (PIAA), school superintendents, coaches, and athletic directors to resume school sports safely this fall.”
In a release announcing the meeting, State Senator Scott Martin said the 11 AM meeting will draw upon the examples set by the many summer recreation leagues that safely conducted their sports seasons.
Shrugging his shoulders during a media conference yesterday, the governor said he was only making a suggestion, and the decision on whether to play a fall season is the PIAA’s. The PIAA will meet on Friday to decide how to proceed.
In response to a Right to Know request filed by Senator Seth Grove, the Department of Health has admitted that there is no data to back up the Wolf Administration’s “strong recommendation.” Grove said yesterday that Pennsylvanians “shouldn’t be forced to blindly follow a leader who appears to create policy unilaterally on a whim.”
