Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said yesterday that guard Matt Feiler and linebacker Robert Spillane might return to the active roster from the injured reserve list for Sunday’s playoff game against the Browns. Spillane has missed four weeks with a knee injury and Feiler has been out three with a pectoral injury.
Tomlin also said safety Terrell Edmunds is expected to practice this week after sitting out with a shoulder injury and kicker Chris Boswell will give it a go as he continues to battle a groin injury.
Tomlin did not speculate on the availability of the three players on the reserve/covid list, but cornerback Joe Haden is not expected to play after testing positive. Tight end Eric Ebron and backup linebacker Cassius Marsh are on the list for contact tracing, and could be back on Sunday night.
The Browns continue to be hard hit by the virus and in fact will be without head coach Kevin Stefanski Sunday after he tested positive. Pro Bowl guard Joel Bitonio and backup wide receiver KhaDarel Hodge also tested positive, as did the Browns’ tight ends coach and defensive backs coach. Special teams coach Mike Priefer will take over the head coaching duties on Sunday.
The Steelers’ Tomlin says he starts each day with a coronavirus report along with his breakfast.
Tomlin says the Steelers are fired up to be back in the playoffs.
Former Steelers guard Alan Faneca and team scout Bill Nunn have made the list of finalists for the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Other players making the list of finalists include Peyton Manning, Jared Allen, Ronde Barber, Tony Boselli, LeRoy Butler, Torry Holt, Calvin Johnson, John Lynch, Clay Matthews Jr., Sam Mills, Richard Seymour, Zach Thomas, Reggie Wayne, and Charles Woodson.
Nunn makes the list as a “contributor”. Former Raiders coach Tom Flores is on the list as a coach, and former Cowboys receiver Drew Pearson is a “senior” candidate.
After interviewing Steelers executive Omar Khan for their vacant general manager position, it appears the Houston Texans are going to hire New England executive Nick Caserio. The Texans wanted him last year, but the Patriots blocked the move.
