Indiana Regional Medical Center announced on Tuesday that they have been granted three-year accreditation for the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers.
According to a news release, IRMC’s Comprehensive Breast Center demonstrated compliance with the NAPBC standards that look at a center’s leadership, clinical services, research, community outreach, professional education and quality improvement. Patients receiving care at an accredited center will also have access to information on clinical trials and new treatments, genetic counseling, and patient-centered services including psycho-social support and a survivorship care plan to help improve their quality of life.
IRMC has worked for the past two and a half years to go through the process and during that time, IRMC Comprehensive Breast Center director Dr. Dan Clark said the hospital upgraded all aspects of breast care. IRMC is the only breast program west of Harrisburg to receive the NAPBC’s national certification.
Clark will visit with Todd Marino on Indiana in the Morning on WCCS this morning at 9:45.

The National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC), a quality program of the American College of Surgeons (ACS), has granted Three-Year Accreditation to Indiana Regional Medical Center. To achieve voluntary NAPBC accreditation, a breast center demonstrates compliance with the NAPBC standards that look at a center’s leadership, clinical services, research, community outreach, professional education, and quality improvement. Breast centers seeking NAPBC accreditation undergo a site visit every three years.
“This is a testament to the hard work of a lot of great people here,” said Steve Wolfe, IRMC President & CEO, “We are proud to be able to deliver such high level of care to the region.”
As a NAPBC-accredited center, IRMC’s Comprehensive Breast Center is committed to maintaining levels of excellence in the delivery of comprehensive, patient-centered, multidisciplinary care resulting in high-quality care for patients with breast disease. Patients receiving care at a NAPBC-accredited center have access to information on clinical trials and new treatments, genetic counseling, and patient centered services including psycho-social support, and a survivorship care plan that documents the care each patient receives and seeks to improve cancer survivor’s quality of life.
“To gain this national certification, we had to go through a very rigorous process. IRMC upgraded all aspects of breast care,” states Dan Clark, MD, Director of the IRMC Comprehensive Breast Center. “Over the past two and half years, as we worked to gain the national certification, we added 3D Mammography in Indiana and Blairsville, Breast MRI, genetic counselling, affiliation with the Hillman Cancer Center, and many other processes.”
Receiving care at our NAPBC-accredited center ensures that patients have access to:
• Comprehensive care, including a full range of state-of-the-art services close to home
• A multidisciplinary team approach to coordinate the best treatment options
• Information about ongoing clinical trials and new treatment options
“The NAPBC certification is a very difficult one to obtain. We are the only breast program west of Harrisburg to have the national certification by the NAPBC. We now have external verification and monitoring that IRMC meets, or beats, all national standards for all aspects of breast care,” says Clark.
