A former elementary school teacher in the Indiana Area School District has been charged with sexually assaulting a child more than a decade ago, when the victim was 13 years old.
60-year-old Patrick J. McKee is charged with felony statutory sexual assault and involuntary deviate sexual intercourse with a person less than 16 years of age, and with misdemeanor corruption of minors.
Indiana Borough Police say the victim, who is now an adult, reported the complaint to the school district several months ago, and the district immediately notified police and cooperated completely with the investigation. McKee is accused of meeting the victim at a youth sports function and over the course of several months in 2009, grooming the victim, including multiple visits to his home. The victim says the assaults took place over a period of several month.
McKee taught for many years at Ben Franklin Elementary School and retired from the Horace Mann Elementary School last June. He was arraigned yesterday before District Judge Guy Haberl and ordered held at the Indiana County Jail, with bond set at $150,000. A preliminary hearing is set for next Thursday, January 21st.
Borough Police ask that anyone who can assist in “identifying further incidents of child abuse and/or sexual assault” call them at 349-2121 or call the Indiana County District Attorney’s office.
