FIRE AT SCRAP METAL YARD IN CENTER TOWNSHIP

No injuries were reported in an explosion and fire reported at a scrap metal yard in Lucernemines this morning.

The explosion was reported at 9:57 this morning at the PJ Greco Scrap Metal Yard at 2001 Lucerne Road.  Indiana County 911 reported that Homer City, Coral-Graceton, Indiana and Brush Valley fire departments were dispatched at that time, with Blacklick and Armagh fire departments called out for standby detail shortly after that.  The explosion happened in a pile of scrap and junk metal inside the compound.

Homer City Assistant Chief Joe Iezzi, Jr. said the cause of the explosion remains unknown at this time.

Crews were able to contain the fire to the pile of scrap metal.  No other damage was reported.
