Arnold Palmer Regional Airport in Latrobe saw more customers pass through the terminal in March.
The Westmoreland County Airport Authority said the airport had 21,620 inbound and outbound passengers last month, up significantly from February’s total of 8,011 passengers. However, last month’s numbers are still not quite back at pre-pandemic levels. In March of 2019, the airport saw 34,651 passengers.
Authority executive director Gabe Monzo said that he felt the recent uptick in the number of passengers is due to the hard work of the airport’s staff, and the distribution of Covid-19 vaccines. Monzo said the vaccine distribution has made people feel more comfortable about booking flights and taking leisure trips.
Across the nation, the Transportation Security Administration reported nearly 1.6 million people going through airport checkpoints in early April.
Starting May 5th, Spirit Airlines will expand service in Latrobe, with two flights a day to Orlando on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays; and two flights a day to Myrtle Beach on Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays.
